When I finally put this book away, it was late in the night. Tears were streaming down my face and when my boyfriend turned from his PC to ask me if I was alright, I could only nod. Of course I wasn’t. So he gave me a strong hug and this is what I told him.
Ink (Paper Gods #)
I have four words to describe this book: wicked idea, terrible outcome. I could not have imagined a better idea for a YA novel that hadn’t been written before. The idea of using Japanese and the double meanings of words was incredibly clever, so it was more than disappointing to find out how poorly it was executed.
The Little Shop of Happy Ever After
Some days, you just need a good pick-me-up book. After reading a giant pile of books for university, this was exactly what I needed. It had collected dust on my dorm bookshelf for a couple of months. Then, it was time for it to be read.
City of Bones
“City of Bones” was a mildly surprising interim reread for me. I had read it as an ebook a couple of years ago, but got only recently around to buying this beautiful edition. What urged me to buy it? It was on sale.
Skinny Bitch
What on Earth I had in mind when I requested this book on Bookmooch all those years ago? However, once I had it, I had no other choice but to add it to my to-read pile of books. Finally, I picked it up and decided to “get through with it.” It was the last book of my goodreads reading challenge, before I extended it.
The Madness Underneath
I haven’t thrown a book against the wall for a long time. No matter how much I dislike it, I don’t really find it in me to be violent. It takes too much energy. When it comes to crappy endings though, I can be dangerously unpredictable.
the Name of the Star
Few books leave me clutching the borrowed book in my hands, thinking how on Earth did I land on this one. As you can read on the cover, Cassandra Clare describes it as “A gorgeously written, chilling, atmospheric thriller.” I don’t agree. It was more than that.
The book cover gives a lot of information on the main story – murders that are taking place in London which are possibly Jack the Ripper’s. The best part? This is just the first book in a series.
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
I had been longing to read this book for months, if not years. When I finally got it, it was not because I went searching for it, but because someone had just returned it to the library. What luck – I had been dying to read something with a cute title that promising.
Suicide Notes
How many disappointing books people read in their life? I guess that depends on how “disappointing” is defined. Is it merely the bad style? The weak story line? Or is it the combination of these two and more?
After reading this book, I was mad for quite some time. I kept pacing around in the kitchen and drinking ridiculous amounts of cold water. Then I stomped home and hoped it would just miraculously feel better. It didn’t.
where she went
When you read a lot, there’s bound to be a moment of “what next?” The lives of the characters continue outside the pages, the shelves grow lighter and you run out of books to read. Especially, if you’re a picky reader like me.
About a week ago, I was elected as a member of a board of directors to a not-so-small-but-not-quite-large organisation. “What have I gotten myself into?” I muttered to myself, as the results were announced. In fact, I only agreed to be a candidate because I thought I’m not popular enough to be voted in. The joke ended up being on me. My mother had only one comment on that: “Well, you’ve never liked new things.”
